1. This is the return ship from Attu back to Seattle. It was the George Washington Carver. It was a Liberty Ship construction. Were all Liberty Ships built in Savannah, GA? It was built in November, 1943 and had 11 engines. Initially named the 'Dogwood', it was a US Army Hospital ship. In 1946 it was converted to be a troop transfer ship and renamed 'George Washington Carver'. It was then attached to the WSA - War Shipping Administration. It was scrapped in Oakland, CA in 1964.
