1. Hiram Samuel Wells was born in 1879 in West Plains. He was a barber and lived in Monett, Arkansas. He married Lola Fay Goss (1903-1932), but they were later separated. I remember hearing a story when I was growing up, about one of Grandma Nell's brothers, either Sam or Emmitt. The story was that he left his family in West Plains one Saturday night to go out for a loaf of bread. He never came back. Years later, when Nellie was told that someone knew her brother was down in Arkanasas, she showed no indication to hunt him down. She figured he knew where she was, if he wanted to contact her. I also remember one of these brothers was blind, late in life.
